Retail Timber
We source all our timber from environmentally sustainable managed forests – so your home looks good without costing the earth.
We select the best timber for your home and personal style preferences. Choose from a wide range of Western Red Cedar, Rosewood, Tasmanian Oak, Merbau, Jarrah, Red Ironbark, Spotted Gum etc. All our timber is carefully selected and tested for moisture content to ensure the least movement after manufacture.
All our detailed joinery has a fine hand sanded finish ready for you to either oil, stain or paint.
Western Red Cedar
An extremely durable but very soft timber commonly used for weatherboards, fascias, windows, doors and joinery. Not only a beautiful timber with a remarkably stable grain structure, but immune to warp or twist, ensuring years of reliable operation. Western Red Cedar has built-in natural preservatives which provide resistance to borers, termites, rot and fungus growth.
Rosewood
Rosewood refers to any of a number of richly hued timbers, often brownish with darker veining but found in many different hues. All rosewoods are strong and heavy, taking an excellent polish, and are suitable for flooring, furniture and turnery. Heartwood ranges from red to reddish-brown. Sapwood is sometimes paler in colour but not always distinguishable from the heartwood. The grain is relatively close and uniform in texture; predominantly straight. Rosewood is very similar to Rose Mahogany in strength, looks and finish, but without its characteristic odour and high cost.
Tasmanian Oak
Victorian Ash (Tasmanian Oak) is commonly used for interior applications like flooring, kitchen cupboards, wall panelling and furniture. It has a uniform light beige to light pink colour and readily accepts stains and coatings.
Merbau
Merbau (Kwila) is a naturally oily wood with high tannin content. This extremely durable hardwood is resistant to termites and decay, and is recommended as a fire retardant. It has a rich, dark brown colour with flecks of yellow often noticeable.
All our Merbau is certified through the Forest Stewardship Council with a full Chain of Custody (COC). The FSC label provides the link between responsible production and consumption and thereby enables the consumer to make socially and environmentally responsible purchasing decisions.
Jarrah
Jarrah is heavy and tough with a pleasant odour. Jarrah can be highly polished and accepts most finishes well. A uniform pink to dark reddish brown colour.
Red Ironbark
An incredibly hard and strong timber (like iron!) that is very difficult to work with
because of its high density and interlocked grain. This is the timber of choice for heavy engineering construction, poles, posts and some heavy furniture. The sapwood is pale yellow contrasting greatly with the dark red heartwood. Red Ironbark also polishes to a glossy finish.
Blackbutt
Blackbutt is one of the most common species of hardwood commercially available
from the coastal forests of New South Wales. After a bushfire, the lower trunk of the tree is dramatically darkened – hence the name ‘blackbutt’. The timber colour ranges from a golden yellow through to pale browns. This timber is excellent where the colour requirement is light and neutral as the colour variations are subtle and the sapwood is distinctly lighter than the heartwood. Blackbutt is predominantly popular for flooring. The sapwood is distinctly lighter than the heartwood. This is a very versatile timber for indoor applications, but not sufficiently durable for outdoor applications.
Spotted Gum
Spotted gum is an excellent multipurpose timber. It has traditionally been used in high impact situations as handles of striking tools such as axes and hammers. It is also one of the best species for preservative treated poles and has been used in ship and boat building, decorative and hard- wearing flooring and heavy construction. The heartwood varies from light brown to dark brown, is hard, strong and very tough, but is not sufficiently durable for external use.
